Producer/director Mike Ratel

Mike Ratel’s first film as a director, On Your Mark, Get Set, MOW! World Premiered at the 2012 DC Independent Film Festival. In 2009 the film’s trailer was selected to screen as part of an evening of documentary trailers hosted by Docs in Progress. The journey to tell the story of lawn mower racing took Ratel across twelve different states and the District of Columbia.

In 2003 Ratel co starred along with director Pat DiNizio in the film King Leisure S.O.B. which was the directorial debut for the Smithereens songwriter and front man. Playing the role of MC Mick Rat Ratel convinces Vinnie Albercharo,

an aging rocker down on his luck (played by DiNizio) to reinvent himself as an middle aged and middle class rapper from the Jersey suburbs. In addition to playing a principal character in the film Ratel co wrote with DiNizio King Leisure’s theme song. The film World Premiered at the 2004 DIY Festival in Los Angeles.

Ratel is a long time still and motion picture photographer. Power pop rockers Mother May I chose some of Ratel’s super 8 footage of their performances to include in their video for their song 33 1/3 and Washington, DC punk rockers The Daycare Swindlers commissioned him to shoot the cover for their album The Morning After.
